Important requirements to be aware of prior to Orientation (February 18-22)
A Senior First Aid Certificate
A Senior First Aid Certificate is required to be completed by the end of semester two of year one of the course. If you do not have your certification by this time, you will not be able to proceed into year two. If you already have a current certificate that will last until the end of the year, please bring it to enrolment or orientation. Certificates are generally valid for a period of three years, so you will need to ensure that you have a valid certificate throughout your Physiotherapy degree.
The Royal Life Saving Society of Western Australia (RLSSWA) is offering two-day Senior First Aid Certificate courses at the School of Physiotherapy. For up-to-date information on dates, costs and registration, please visit the Recreation Industry Skills & Education web site.
Aside from the RLSSWA, there are a number of other providers of senior first aid training such as St John's Ambulance Australia, The Red Cross and EduSafe. Students may choose to complete their senior first aid certificate with any institution whose qualification is accredited to Australian Senior First Aid standards. It is the responsibility of students to research training providers to find out the dates and costs of the various senior first aid courses that are available.
Evidence of Aquatic Proficiency
Certification of aquatic proficiency must be provided to the School by November of year one. If you do not have certification by this time, you will not be able to proceed into year two. If you already have a relevant certificate, please bring the original certificate as well as a photocopy for our records to enrolment or orientation. Accepted qualifications include Bronze Medallion, Teachers Rescue Award, Accompanied Rescue Award (Lifesaving Three), Hydrotherapy Rescue Award or any equivalent, accredited, Australian swimming qualification.
The Hydrotherapy Rescue Award is available for Physiotherapy students to partake in each year. Details will be made available during student orientation at the beginning of each year. Refer to FAQs for more information about this basic level qualification.
