Deep to the flexor retinaculum is the Tom (tibialis posterior), Dick (flexor digitorum), and (tibial artery) very (vein) nervous (tibial nerve) Harry (flexor hallucis longus). In the picture shown from anterior to posterior is tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum, tibial nerve (bifurcating into medial and lateral plantar), vascular bundle. It appears as if the nerves are anterior to the vascular bundle, but in fact the nerves were found DEEP to the vascular bundle.
