Discussion
The dissection showed that the tendon of popliteus attached to the lateral femoral condyle underneath the LCL, which is contrary to what is stated by Reid (1992) and Travell and Simons (1999). At the tendon’s lower end it was attached to the menisco-capsular junction of the lateral meniscus. This is in agreement with Basmajian and Lovejoy (1971), Griffin (1984), Harner et al (1998), La Prade et al (2000) and Simonian et al (1997). The tendon was found to be intracapsular which is in agreement with Williams et al (1995). A lateral condylar fabella was not identified and consequently there was no fabellofibular ligament. This ligament was present in 42% of cadavers’ dissected by Kim et al (1997). The popliteofibular ligament was also absent. This ligament was present in 32% of specimens in the study by Kim et al (1997).
