Slide Four

This slide begins to expose the structures underlying the attachments of psoas. Ventral rami of L1-L4 that descend and form the femoral nerve were noted to be invested within psoas with strong connective tissue attachments anchoring the nerve.

At the L5/S1 level, the femoral nerve was formed, emerging between the PM and iliacus muscles. Psoas major overactivity or hypertrophy may lead to compression or restrict glide of the ventral rami, as the muscle volume increases.
