The functional anatomy of the iliopsoas muscle and its implications to hip and back injury in dancers

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of the iliopsoas (IP) muscle and its implication to hip and back injury in dancers. The study entailled the following stages:

  1. Detailed dissection of the posterior abdominal wall and structures related to the IP muscle.
  2. Relate the psoas major (PM) and IP anatomy to the role in of low back pain (LBP) and snapping hip syndrome (SHS) in dancers, respectively.
