Dissection procedures

Skin incision

To expose the gluteal muscles, an incision was made superior to the arc of the iliac crest and along the medial sacral border extending down the medial aspect of the thigh. The short external rotators and the superior and inferior gluteal vessels were identified when the gluteus maximus was cut and reflected. An anterior dissection was conducted to identify the path of the gemelli and the fan-shaped origin of the obturator internus. The pelvic floor was dissected to expose the lumbosacral plexus and the origin of the sciatic nerve.
