Movement Associated activity in the motor cortex

The motor cortex sends a complex array of signals to the spinal cord and directs the coordinated contraction of different muscles in the body. The neural code that is used to specify movement can be studied by relating neural activity to various parameters of movement, such as force, velocity and trajectory. If we can fully understand this code then we may be able to artificially stimulate the spinal cord to overcome paralysis when the motor cortex is damaged.

Neural activity and movement Neural activity and movement

Neural activity is related to movement parameters by recording the neural activity along with a video recording of the movement simultaneously on a video-recorder.
